Current WBC champion Deontay Wilder has hit back at suggestions claiming he is ‘jealous’ of heavyweight rival Anthony Joshua, revealing the Brit has ‘nothing’ he wants, talkSPORT report.
The two heavyweight champions nearly agreed a deal to fight last year, however, after a breakdown in negotiations, Joshua took on Russian Alexander Povetkin, while Wilder faced Tyson Fury.
The pair have also now already agreed summer deals, with Wilder taking on fellow American Dominic Breazeale in May, while Brit Joshua will make his stateside debut against Jarrell ‘Big Baby’ Miller in June.
Before agreeing to take on Breazeale, Wilder declined a $100 million three-fight deal from Joshua’s US broadcaster DAZN, with the American reportedly refusing to agree to a deal without knowing what Joshua would earn.
This has led to numerous suggestions claiming the American is jealous of Joshua, however, when asked near the end of a fan Q&A, Wilder was asked by a Joshua fan if he was jealous of the current IBF, IBO, WBA and WBO champion.
Why would I be jealous of AJ? I’m the wrong person for that.
What does AJ got that I want? He doesn’t have nothing that I want. Everything that he has, that’s nothing to me.
I love life, I got money in the bank, ain’t nobody going broke around here, so why would I be jealous?
Wilder may well delay a bout with Joshua again after his clash with Breazeale, with the ‘Bronze Bomber’ looking to take on Fury for a second time before the end of the year.
