Wladimir Klitschko would rank amongst the top five heavyweights in the world if he made a dramatic return to the ring, according to Anthony Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn.
The 43-year-old, who announced his retirement from the sport back in 2017 following defeat to Joshua, has reportedly been offered £60 million from broadcast company DAZN to make a sensational return to the ring.
The deal would see the Ukrainian fight three times, which could include a huge showdown with WBC champion Deontay Wilder.
Klitschko, who began his professional career back in 1996, aged 20, has stepped inside the ring on 69 occasions, winning 64 of them.
And Hearn, talking to Fight Hub TV, cited by the Metro, gave an update regarding Klitschko’s reported return.
No, I think Klitschko’s had a couple of exploratory chats with people.
Again, I don’t think there’s much movement or nothing is imminent. But that’s the business of Wladimir Klitschko.
Asked if he would personally like to see the 43-year-old return to the ring, Hearn said:
I think it’s always going to be tempting for a heavyweight of the past to return when he sees how big and active the division is right now.
One of Klitschko’s problems is for all those years he never really had the dance partners.
Now they are out there and I’m sure he’s tempted every day to return, whether he does or not time will tell.
Finally, when Hearn was asked where the Ukrainian would rank amongst the current heavyweight’s in the world if he was to return, the promoter said:
Yeah, top five for sure. But he hasn’t boxed in nearly three years, so we’ll see.
