Frank Warren, promoter of ‘lineal’ world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, has hit back at criticism from Eddie Hearn regarding the Gypsy King’s next fight against German Tom Schwarz.
Fury, who made his return to the ring last summer against Sefer Seferi, will face off against the German in Las Vegas on June 15.
The 30-year-old was expected to take on WBC champion Deontay Wilder for a second time following their controversial split decision draw back in December, however, the American decided to pull out of the proposed rematch earlier this month and will now face Dominic Breazeale in May.
Fellow Brit Anthony Joshua, who has been heavily linked with a showdown against Fury, will take on Jarrell ‘Big Baby’ Miller on June 1.
Joshua’s promoter Hearn recently slammed Fury for taking on Schwarz, labelling the scheduled fight as ‘terrible’.
However, talking in his Metro column, Warren fired back at Hearn, revealing that Schwarz has the same record as Fury did when he defeated Wladimir Klitschko back in 2015.
If you look at the top five heavyweights behind Joshua, Wilder and Fury, how many of them are well known? Schwarz was chosen because he was ranked No.2 with the WBO and he’s got an undefeated 24-0 record.
Coincidentally, that is the same record Tyson had when he fought, and beat, Wladimir Klitschko. No one can claim Tyson has ducked anyone. He’s been everywhere, fighting in everyone else’s backyard.
