Anthony Joshua ‘likely’ to scrap proposed Wembley bout
British heavyweight Anthony Joshua is ‘unlikely’ to compete at Wembley Stadium on April 13, according to promoter Eddie Hearn, the BBC report.
Unified champion Joshua last stepped inside the ring back in September, defeating Russian mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin at Wembley Stadium.
The 29-year-old has the venue booked out again for April and has been linked with a fight against rivals Deontay Wilder, Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte in recent months.
However, with WBC champion Wilder set to take on the self-proclaimed ‘Gypsy King’ in a rematch following their controversial split decision draw, Joshua looks likely to take his first fight in America.
Promoter Hearn, talking to IFL TV, revealed that the Wembley bout is unlikely to take place, admitting a clash with Jarrell ‘Big Baby’ Miller is edging closer.
The main thing is it looks like 13 April is unlikely.
I think Dillian thinks, for a fight like that, he’d want a bit more time.
So, if we do the Whyte fight, I think we move it to May or June anyway.
But the Jarrell Miller fight is very close for June at Madison Square Garden.
The 30-year-old American looks to be the favourite to take on the IBF, IBO, WBA and WBO champion next and Joshua could well set up a clash with either Wilder or Fury with a victory against Miller later in the year.
