According to Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn, Dillian Whyte is now the front-runner to land a Wembley showdown in April, the Daily Star report.

The 30-year-old has enjoyed a fine 2018, defeating Joseph Parker in July, before coming out on top again fellow Brit Dereck Chisora last weekend.

Joshua on the other hand is still awaiting to find out who his opponent will be for his next fight in April, after defeating Alexander Povetkin at Wembley Stadium in September.

Fellow heavyweights Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder have been linked with a clash with Joshua following their dramatic split decision draw at the beginning of the month, however, according to Hearn, Whyte is currently the favourite to face Joshua in the new year.

Talking to IFL TV, Hearn said:

As it stands today, I would probably say that judging by the response from Wilder’s team, Dillian Whyte is probably the front-runner.

We got to do a deal, and it’s not going to be easy.

Dillian wants certain things, and Joshua wants certain things.

They don’t like each other, but there’s a lot of money to be made in that fight.

However, with Joshua publicly stating recently that he would prefer to face WBC champion Wilder, Hearn revealed they will be doing all they can to secure a deal with the American in the coming weeks.

Our priorities have not changed to make the Deontay Wilder fight.

I can’t exactly say it looks like they want the fight. We’re ready to fight Wilder.

But maybe they can’t do a deal with Fury in the rematch.
