Shelly Finkel has revealed that he believes Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury will agree on a fight deal soon and he fully expects the two heavyweights to meet in the ring, according to a report on the Boxing Scene.
Finkel, who is the co-manager of Wilder, is confident that his fighter can overcome the challenge posed by former world champion Fury.
WBC champion Wilder and Fury have already previously clashed inside a boxing ring. Following the American’s victory over Arthur Szpilka, Fury got in the ring and the pair traded verbal blows to one another, with boxing fans around the world watching with joy at the prospect of a bout between the two.
However, a lot has happened since then and both fighters have gone on separate paths, but Fury is slowly making his comeback to the sport after a lengthy period out of action.
When speaking about a potential fight between Fury and Wilder, Finkel said:
Deontay is very excited about it. He remembers Fury jumping in the ring (after the Szpilka fight). There’s been a bit of a history there. They’ve traded barbs.
In this sport, in the heavyweight division, after Deontay and Joshua, this is the biggest fight. I think it will get done. The points that matter are done, but it’s not done until it’s signed.
Both fighters have verbally agreed to face one another in posts on their social media accounts but there are just a few details that need to be confirmed.
The official announcement of the fight is expected to be made after Fury’s fight with Francesco Pianeta on August 18th in Belfast.
