Anthony Joshua will fight in Africa at some point during his career, according to manager Freddie Cunningham.

The 28-year-old has previously flirted with the idea of fighting in Nigeria, where both his parents were born.

The current WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO champion will take on mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin in September, at Wembley Stadium.

However, the Olympic gold medalist is still wanting to fight in Africa during his career as he aims to solidify his name as a global superstar.

There were talks of Joshua facing Wladimir Klitschko in a possible rematch in Lagos, however, the Ukrainian swiftly retired shortly after the rumours began.

Manager Cunningham, talking to Seconds Out, revealed that the British heavyweight is still extremely committed to competing in Africa.

He wants to do it so it’s not a matter of if, it’s literally just when we do it. When that will be, who knows but you see the footage coming back from Nigeria from fans and you just know it is something we have got to do.

Joshua is set to fight again at Wembley Stadium next April, potentially against Deontay Wilder, however, after that we may see the British heavyweight compete in Africa.
