Golovkin desperate to avoid defeat in Canelo rematch
Gennady Golovkin has admitted that he cannot afford to lose his eagerly anticipated rematch with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez on 15th September in Las Vegas, according to a report on the BoxingNews24.
The middleweight champion has been hugely critical of his Mexican rival after their initial rematch was called off after Canelo failed a drugs test, testing positive for the banned substance clenbuterol.
However, after a thorough investigation, Canelo has been cleared and has signed himself up for regular drugs testing to prove that he is a clean fighter.
Their first fight was hugely controversial after the judges decided that it was a draw after 12 rounds, with many pundits and fans believing that Golovkin was the deserved winner. But GGG has decided he won’t let it go to the judges this time around. He said:
I can’t lose this fight. It’s a very interesting fight for me because I feel his energy. I feel the champ’s energy. I’m just going to change my performance. I know what I need for the second fight. Now we have a different situation, completely different. I have more experience now.
Golovkin admitted that he showed Canelo slightly too much respect in their first fight and was adamant that he won’t be making the same mistake again. The Kazakhstan international fighter wants to knock out Canelo and is planning to put pressure on him in the early rounds of the contest.
