David Price has given Anthony Joshua a warning about the power and strength of Alexander Povetkin as the IBF, IBO, WBA and WBO champion looks set to face the Russian, according to a report on the Boxing News.
Price was brutally knocked out by Povetkin on the undercard of Joshua’s bout with Joseph Parker at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff and has warned his fellow British fighter that he could suffer the same fate.
Joshua would ideally like to fight American Deontay Wilder next, but with the negotiations taking so much time, he may be forced to fight WBA Mandatory challenger Povetkin first.
When speaking about Povetkin, Price said:
The funny thing is now with Povetkin because I gave him an alright fight all of a sudden he’s **** in a lot of people’s eyes.
Listen, mate, there’s a reason he’s done what he’s done for a reason. He’s going to fight Anthony Joshua. Joshua’s got to beat him obviously. Don’t take him lightly. Not one bit would I take him lightly.
Price was commentating on Tony Bellew’s rematch with David Haye and was alongside Joshua for the majority of the night as both fighters gave their views on the contest.
Povetkin possesses the power to hurt Joshua and Price believes that it won’t be a walk in the park as everyone expects it to be.
