Joshua in USA ahead of possible Wilder-Joshua announcement
Anthony Joshua has arrived in the United States this week ahead of the possible announcement of his fight with Deontay Wilder, report The Sportsman.
The current IBF, IBO, WBA and WBO heavyweight champion was present to witness the Golden State Warriors lose to the Houston Rockets in Game 4 of the Western Conference finals in Oakland.
Joshua last fought in March when he defeated New Zealand boxer Joseph Parker on points for the WBO heavyweight title.
Joshua has one belt left to gain but it is currently held by the elusive Wilder. The American is the WBC champion and has recently been calling out Joshua through social media in the hopes of setting up a possible clash between the two. Joshua’s arrival in the US this week has started rumours that the fight could be announced soon.
Wilder offered Joshua $50m to fight but Joshua and Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn believe that the offer was merely a publicity stunt.
Both parties are struggling to agree on details such as the venue of the fight. Wilder wants the fight to be held in Las Vegas whilst Joshua is determined to fight in the UK. The fight, if made, is expected in September or late 2018, giving the fight plenty of time to generate the hype it deserves.
If they can’t agree on a deal soon, then Joshua will have to fight WBA mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin.
