Tyson Fury reveals his post-boxing plans
British heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury has revealed that he wants to become a qualified doctor after he has finished his boxing career, according to a report on Sky Sports.
Fury is eager to help other people and believes that by being a doctor he will be able to do that to a high level.
Fury is set to return to the boxing ring on 9 June in Manchester against Sefer Seferi but the fighter has a long-term aim of becoming the heavyweight champion of the world once again.
The 29-year-old has battled with mental health problems in recent years but has returned to the sport with a clear aim.
He said:
I had a choice and I chose boxing first but, after boxing, I am going to be a doctor. I made that decision a few years ago. I am going to be a doctor and I am going to help people.
When I have finished in a few years, I’ll still only be in my early 30s. Then I’ll study for the next seven years to be a doctor.
If I’m 40 and a qualified doctor, I’m still a young doctor. That is what I intend to do. I studied very hard at school but I turned to sport because that was my calling – and I’ve got to the highest level in that.
Whatever I put my mind to, I do well. I think doctors and nurses do a fantastic job, they’re underpaid and without them, we’d be in a lot of trouble.
Fury is eager to fight fellow British heavyweight Anthony Joshua in what he believes will be boxing’s “biggest fight ever”.
Fury respects Joshua as a fighter but believes that he will defeat the current champion with ease. However, he must first get through the challenge of Seferi and get himself into the best possible shape because he has not fought since 2015.
