Matchroom Boxing has made a nine-figure offer to Anthony Joshua for the current heavyweight champion to remain with Eddie Hearn for the next three years, according to a report on World Boxing News.
His current deal expires in six months and he most likely only has one fight remaining under this current deal. The IBF, IBO, WBA and WBO heavyweight champion is being urged to commit his immediate future to the company after the various successes that they have had together so far.
Eddie Hearn’s father Barry was heavily involved in the process of bringing Joshua to Matchroom after his success at the London Olympics in 2012. He believes that the close bond that Eddie and Joshua have developed could be a big factor in the heavyweight superstar signing another contract with Matchroom.
Anthony is an astute young man and he knows what Matchroom has to offer him when his contract runs out in November
Anthony is signed to the biggest and best promotional company in the world. We have the financial clout to make sure the big fights can go ahead at the big venues.
We also have an exclusive contract with Sky Sports to screen quality boxing. There is also Sky Box Office. On top of all that, Anthony is also a friend. If he went, it would be like someone in the family leaving.
No one at Matchroom is putting Anthony under pressure, but I am as confident as anyone can be.
Joshua was offered $50m by Deontay Wilder to agree to a unification fight, but Hearn believes that it was just a publicity stunt by the American.
Wilder has the WBC belt that Joshua is after, leaving many fans and pundits to believe a fight will happen in the summer in the UK before a rematch heads over to the States towards Christmas.
Whatever Joshua decides to do, it is certain that any deal will significantly improve his current financial earnings and push him towards being one of the most wealthy sportspeople on the planet.
