Amir Khan has admitted to being nervous ahead of his return to boxing.
The 31-year-old hasn’t stepped into the ring since being knocked out by Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in 2016, in what was a ferocious performance by the Mexican.
In his time away from the sport Khan has appeared on the reality television program ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ and upon his return from the show signed a contract with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Sport.
With a fight scheduled for April 21 against Phil lo Greco of Canada, the Liverpool Arena will play host to the welterweight’s comeback.
Khan admitted to being excited to stepping back into the world of professional boxing:
It’s great to be back home, it’s been five years since I fought in England,
The last couple of fights have been in the States, it’s nice to come back and get a big fight over here.
Lo Greco enters with a 28-3 record, and Khan is feeling a few nerves:
I am a little bit nervous but I know my fitness is right, I’ve trained hard for this. I do feel a lot better than I did at 28. I’m 31 now, I’m at the peak of my career, I know I have a bit left in me to come back. I want to win another world title, that’s what keeps me going.
