Scott Quigg failed to weigh in at featherweight limit ahead of his fight with Oscar Valdez in Los Angeles, however, the bout will still go ahead as planned, Sky Sports report.
Due to Quigg weighing in over the limit, Valdez’s WBO featherweight title will not be on the line when the pair meet in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Quigg weighed in at 128.8lbs, 2.8lbs over the featherweight limit, while Valdez, who is undefeated from all 23 of his professional contests, weighed in legally at 125.8lbs, 0.2lbs under the maximum weight.
Talking after the weigh in, Quigg was extremely apologetic to his opponents camp, stating he done everything he could to make the weight.
I was three-pound over yesterday morning, got up and did three sessions yesterday. It didn’t budge. I apologise to Oscar and his team. I can show you exactly what I have done, the weight was perfect. It just wouldn’t shift yesterday. I tried and tried, and I have not stopped trying.
Despite the WBO featherweight title not being at stake for the bout, both Quigg and Valdez will be desperate to come out on top, with a victory for Quigg potentially earning himself another shot at taking Valdez’s title.
