Billy Joe Saunders reveals his next opponent
Billy Joe Saunders will defend his WBO middleweight title against Willie Monroe Jr on September 16th at London’s Copperbox Arena.
After winning the belt back in December 2015 against Andy Lee, 2016 was a frustrating one for Saunders.
In a year plagued by injuries, he faced Artur Akavov in Glasgow last December in the least convincing fashion.
The gypsy fighter was set to face Avtandil Khurtsidze in June, but, Khurtsidze was arrested by US authorities.
There was also the possibility of a unification fight with Gennady Golovkin, however, this failed to materialise.
Speaking about the fight, Saunders realises that he will be going up with one of the best.
This is his big chance and he isn’t coming over here just to make up the numbers.
He has been in with some of the best fighters in the World including Golovkin where he came up short.
Monroe Jr, on the other hand, is hungry for a title belt and is looking forward to showing off his fighting capabilities.
I’m always in the gym and I’m ready to go now; I live the life.
I can’t wait to show up and show out in London.
Saunders is a good fighter and a worthy World Champion but I’m coming for that belt.
Anthony Yarde and Daniel Dubois are also set to make an appearance on the undercard.
