Joshua seeks regular advice from Klitschko
IBF, IBO, WBA and WBO heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has revealed that he speaks to Wladimir Klitschko on a daily basis to seek advice on how to improve, according to a report on the Daily Star.
Joshua is one belt away from being the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world but knows that there is still plenty of room for improvement.
After beating Joseph Parker last month, Joshua understood that there were certain areas of his boxing style that he could perfect and he believes that Klitschko is the ideal person to speak to.
Joshua said:
I spoke to Wladimir yesterday – I reach out all the time. The man is an encyclopedia of boxing knowledge. Why not?
I’m trying to learn and I am not the master yet – I’m still a student. So as much information on how to better me is welcome, even the negative.
I always look at the negatives as well as people wanting me to do well. And if everyone tells you you’re great, how are you going to improve?
Although Joshua defeated Klitschko in the 11th round of their April bout last year, he still respects the veteran because he is always ready to help him outside the ring.
Joshua almost sees Klitschko as his boxing role model and is eager to dominate the heavyweight division, just as he did during his successful career.
He didn’t just show us how to be a champion in the ring, he showed us how to conduct ourselves and how to handle the responsibilities of being a champion.
When I analyse champions, I say ‘yeah, I like the way Klitschko moved and the way Lennox [Lewis] moved’
They’re not just champions in the ring, it’s their responsibilities outside that I really respect.
