Manny Pacquiao has released a statement admitting he is not sure on who will be his head trainer for his upcoming fight, and will announce who he has chosen in the next seven days, Boxing News report.
There have been numerous reports suggesting that Pacquiao had split with his long-term trainer Freddie Roach in recent weeks, however, Pacquiao has not confirmed the split or if Roach will be in his corner, leaving the pair’s future in doubt.
Pacquiao, who was surprisingly on the wrong end of a points decision against Jeff Horn last year, is set to take on Lucas Matthysse in Malaysia for a WBA welterweight title this July.
A statement released by Pacquiao addressed the current rumours regarding his trainer.
Contrary to statements which I personally did not make that are circulating in the media, I have not made my final decision who will be my head trainer for my July 14 fight with Matthysse. My advisor Mike Koncz has been in contact with Freddie’s people to keep them informed. I will make a final decision within the week. When that decision is made, Freddie will be the first one to be informed and then I will advise the media.
With the pair’s future in doubt, it is still unknown as to who Pacquiao is lining up as a potential replacement to Roach, as he looks to get back to winning ways in 2018.
