Lucas Browne – ‘I’ve got more power than Joshua’
Australian heavyweight Lucas Browne has been talking himself up ahead of his fight against Dillian Whyte this weekend.
The 30-year-old has a career record of 25-0, and with 23 of those wins coming by way of the knockout, you can imagine he’d be confident in his ability to end a fight in one instant.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Browne said when asked about his power:
I can knock anyone out on the planet. But how do I set myself up? If I land a flush punch, it’s over.
The interviewer then drew a comparison to British heavyweight and holder of the WBA and IBF belts Anthony Joshua, and asked Browne if he thought he was packing more punch than the superstar from Watford.
Browne said:
Yes, 100 percent. My ex-trainer Jeff Fenech also held pads for Mike Tyson. Granted, I am no Mike Tyson. But he says I hit harder than Mike Tyson. That’s more than Joshua, for sure.
In addition to Joshua, Browne was grilled on another world champion, Deontay Wilder. Of him, Browne said:
I don’t think he’s a very good technical boxer but he can hit. When he gets excited, he throws windmills. His record says that when he touches you, you go out.
Whyte and Brown meet Saturday for the WBA silver heavyweight title. Despite never having challenged for a world title, Browne might soon have that chance. And with the power he believes he has, it could be a fight he has a serious chance in.
