Round four of the promotional tour for Floyd Mayweather’s fight with Conor McGregor took the duo to London. After the car crash that was the New York show, things on the other side of the pond went a bit better but there will still some controversial moments. Here’s a round up of everything you need to know from the event.
Spanky spanky!
The first funny, and slightly odd, moment of the show came when McGregor pretended to spank Mayweather as he entered the ring!
Conor's birthday
Conor was pleased to be back in Europe and very quickly acknowledged his support before announcing that is was his birthday. “What’s up London? What an honour for me to end this tour so close to home. I can hear so many on my side supporting me. We’re six weeks away from the biggest fight in sporting history. And I’m 29 today!”
Half a fight!
Conor spoke about how far he’s come in his short career and how he’s looking forward to cashing a massive cheque in what he described as “half a fight” due to it being in a boxing ring and not the UFC Octagon: “Four years ago I fought in London in front of about 500 people. Now here I am about to quadruple my net worth with one-half a fight! Sign me up! No one is going to kick, knee or elbow. And it’s against this little b****!”
Greedy Floyd
Conor says Floyd made a huge mistake by agreeing to fight him and that he’s only doing it because he got greedy. “He could have rolled off into the sunset 49 and 0. Instead, in six weeks, I will box him! How the **** did they let me roll up in here? They got greedy. That’s how!”
You can’t fight for him!
As Mayweather began to speak, he got a lot of stick from a partisan crowd. It seemed to rattle the American as he shouted “Give him some more chants, you nursery rhymes. You can’t fight for him!”
A microwave meal? Yes a microwave meal...
As the verbals continued between the pair, it looked as if Mayweather was running out of insults.
This was one of his stranger ones, liking McGregor to a microwavable ready meal.
“I feel so good. I look so good. I’m undefeated. And this is all you have to offer?
“This is a microwave meal. I’m a home-cooked meal.”
Is an MMA fight already on the cards?
As if the boxing fight between the pair has not got enough publicity, Mayweather hinted that an MMA rematch could already be on the cards. He was feeling confident about his chances in both sports.
“I would run the UFC. I would run the Octagon like I run the ring,” Mayweather stated.
McGregor full of praise for the Irish fans
McGregor was getting a lot of love from the London crowd, and he could not speak highly enough about his Irish following as well.
“Everyone knows about the Irish fans. You don’t mess with them.
“It’s a different animal when the Irish are in town. That’s the truth.”
