Billy Joe Saunders confirms next world title defence
WBO world middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders confirms that he will be facing Avantandil Khurtsidze on July 8th at the Copperbox Arena in London.
Saunders was originally rumoured to be facing Gennady Golovkin in June in a unification fight, however, GGG has opted to face Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in September.
Khurtsidze made himself a challenger for the WBO belt after beating Tommy Langford in Leicester last April with a brutal left hook.
Speaking about the fight, Saunders is hoping to make it a difficult night for Khurtsidze.
He will never beat me and I will make him look stupid on July 8.
He does possess knockout power but I’m going to make sure I’m in the shape of my life and give him the toughest night he has ever had.
Khurtsidze, on the other hand, is hoping for another impressive knockout win.
I’m coming to the UK for another knockout,
I took Tommy Langford’s unbeaten record and I’m coming for Billy Joe’s, and his belt!
I have waited patiently for my world title show and I won’t waste it.
Billy Joe didn’t want to fight me last year and he would be wise to avoid me again; I love to fight!
Promoter Frank Warren believes Saunders will be too much for Khurtsidze technically when it comes to July 8th.
I believe that a clever and slippery customer like Bill is far too stealthy to get himself cornered against Khurtsidze.
He has one of the best chins in the middleweight business and it will take something spectacular to beat him.
This will be an intriguing fight.
