After an explosive opening, Thurman was able to stay out of trouble during the closing stages to seal the victory.

Speaking after the fight, Thurman, who extended his unbeaten record to 28-0, believed he was the much better fighter.

I thought I outboxed him,

I thought it was a clear victory. You heard the scorecards. I knew it had to go to me.

Garcia did not seem too affected by the decision when he spoke about his performance.

I came up short tonight but I gave it my all,

I thought I was the aggressor. I pushed the pace of the fight. I came to fight and it didn’t go my way – oh well.
