Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez will face Julio Cesar Chavez on May 6th.

The weight has been agreed at 164.5lbs, giving Canelo the chance to box over the middleweight limit.

Alavrez has often created controversy during his time as WBC middleweight champion, with his two title defences against Miguel Cotto and Amir Khan being at a catchweight, not the official limit of 160lbs.

Canelo was forced to vacate his WBC belt after not agreeing to face mandatory challenger Gennady Golovkin.

Canelo returned to action last September against Liam Smith for the WBO light middleweight title in Dallas, wherehe knocked out Smith in the ninth round.

Despite the announcement of this fight, there is a still chance of the highly anticipated clash between Canelo and Golovkin with the Mexican’s dramatic rise in weight.

The location for Canelo vs Chavez has not yet been confirmed at the time of writing, but, the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas is the likely candidate.
