Lee Selby’s first title defence of 2017 has been confirmed for the Carl Frampton-Leo Santa Cruz undercard.
The 29-year-old, who is the IBF World featherweight champion, will defend his title against Jonathan Victor Barros at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
This will be Selby’s first fight in 10 months, and the 29-year-old is looking forward to getting back into the ring and taking another huge step towards his awaited fight with Frampton, who is defending his WBA Super belt in a rematch against Santa Cruz.
Speaking to Sky Sports News ahead of his title defence, Selby said:
I can’t wait to get in there again. I’ve been expecting it since before Christmas and for some reason they’ve left it until the last minute, but I don’t know why and I don’t care, the main thing is I am on it.
It is one hell of a card but winning will set up a big fight between me and Frampton – that’s the one Britain wants to see next.
But there’s me defending my world title against a former world champion and Mikey Garcia taking on Zlaticanin, which will be a great fight.
