Tyson Fury vacates world titles
Heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury has vacated his WBA, WBO and IBO world heavyweight titles.
Due to inactivity and mental health issues, Fury had no choice, but, to vacate the titles.
Fury has not fought since he won the titles, beating Wladimir Klitschko in November last year.
The rematch between the pair was set to take place on October 29th in Manchester, but, the bout was cancelled after Fury was declared “medically unfit” to fight, later revealing he had used cocaine to deal with depression.
The British heavyweight has had a traumatic time as champion as he was charged with anti-doping by UKAD in June, but, a was set to take place hearing after his rematch with Klitschko had taken place.
Fury’s boxing license has also been suspended for the time being with a meeting with the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) scheduled to take place to determine whether Fury will fight again.
Peter Fury, Tyson’s coach and uncle, believes his nephew will return to the ring in 2017.
Promoter Mick Hennessey believes that Tyson will also return to the ring and will be “unbeatable” when he makes his return to the heavyweight division.
What happens to Fury’s vacated titles remains a mystery with the likes of Anthony Joshua, Wladimir Klitschko and Joseph Parker all contenders for various versions of the heavyweight titles.
