Tyson Fury retires from boxing
The Heavyweight Champion of the World, Tyson Fury, has announced, in an expletive-filled tweet, that he has retired from boxing.
Fury has held the WBA (Unified), WBO and IBO titles since November 2015 when he defeated Wladimir Klitschko, but has not defended his titles since.
Two scheduled rematches with Klitschko have been cancelled since, one with Fury saying he had a sprained ankle and, most recently, him being declared “medically unfit” to fight amidst allegations that he had tested positive for cocaine.
Fury, aka ‘The Gyspy King’. if he sticks to his word, will retire undefeated with a record of 25 wins from 25 fights, with 18 of those wins coming via the way of knockout.
Fury has certainly been a divisive character over the course of his career, getting embroiled in numerous controversies over some of his comments towards women and homosexuals in particular.
If he does make his retirement official, it’s likely that Anthony Joshua will fight Klitschko for the relinquished titles in the near future.
